Chilli Pepper Peter Seeds

Chilli Pepper Peter Seeds

Peter is a very interesting little chilli that makes a great conversation piece in the garden or in the kitchen due to its distinctively phallic shape, hence its name.

The green juvenile fruits mature to an orange or bright red and have a mildly hot flavour. Preferring partial shade and wind-free conditions, the fruits hang down all but vertical. Fruits vary in size from around 2-4" (5-10 cm) in length and up to 1" (2½ cm) in diameter. The plant grows to around 2 feet (60 cm) tall with a similar spread.

It fits squarely in the medium-hot level of the pepper scale 10,000 to 23,000 Scoville heat units. in fact, it parallels the Serrano pepper quite well in terms of overall pungency.

Peter peppers are comparable to jalapeno peppers in flavour, with a vegetal taste, though they can be fruitier and can be quite a bit hotter. Their flavour profile deepens their inherent sweetness when roasted, making them an excellent choice for sauces and hot sauces with a spicier kick to them.

Peter is a Capsicum annuum which is a species of the plant genus Capsicum native to southern North America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. This species is the most common and extensively cultivated of the five domesticated capsicums. The species encompasses a wide variety of shapes and sizes of peppers, both mild and hot, such as bell peppers, jalapeños, and cayenne peppers. Capsicum annuum is an evergreen Perennial growing to 1m by 1m at a medium rate.
