Chilli Pepper Padron Seeds

Chilli Pepper Padron Seeds

Padron Chilli Peppers are the variety traditionally used in Spanish tapas. They are used whilst green & immature and are very mild, however, 1 in 10 may be hot - a game of chilli roulette!!

Padron Chilli Pepper is a Capsicum annuum which is a species of the plant genus Capsicum native to southern North America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. This species is the most common and extensively cultivated of the five domesticated capsicums. The species encompasses a wide variety of shapes and sizes of peppers, both mild and hot, such as bell peppers, jalapeños, and cayenne peppers. Capsicum annuum is an evergreen Perennial growing to 1m by 1m at a medium rate. It is hardy to UK zone 9 and is frost tender. It is in leaf all year, in flower from July to September, and the seeds ripen from August to October. The species is hermaphrodite (which has both male and female organs).

All Chilli Peppers are rich in vitamin C, but these mild tasty chilli peppers are especially productive in the UK climate, producing up to 30 fruits per plant from early summer through to the first frosts.

Padron chilli peppers are cone shaped and slightly wrinkled, the pods are green when immature & harvested at 3cm long and mature when red at about 10cm long by 4cm wide. Mature red ones will reach between 3,000 - 12,000 SHU so of mild to medium heat.

The chilli plants can reach 1-1.2m tall and will continue to produce peppers so long as the pods are regularly picked. Spanish Tapas recipes usually roast them in olive oil and sprinkle with salt but they are excellent fresh/for stir-fries or stuffing.
